Kamoshibito Kuheiji
Kamoshibito Kuheiji sake is brewed by Kuheiji Kuno, the 15th-generation brewer of Manjo Shuzo brewery located in Odaka-cho, Midori-ku, Nagoya. With a relatively sharp acidity, it can hold its own against such richly flavored foods as foie gras, fried foods, and decadent sauces.
This is the only sake served at the Hotel Ritz on the Place Vendome in Paris. Three years ago, when the sake was served at a Japanese event held at the hotel, local winemakers gave it high marks for its "fine handcrafted flavor."
"If Japanese restaurants can serve wine, then surely French restaurants can serve sake," went the Nagoya brewmasters' thinking, so they packed up some sake and took it to Paris where they sold it directly to local chefs and sommeliers.
Today, Kamoshibito Kuheiji is included on the wine list at Spoon, an Alain Ducasse restaurant. In Paris it has apparently become known as the "Eau de Desir" (water of desire). Kamoshibito Kuheiji was also served to First Class passengers last year in celebration of Japan Airlines' 50th anniversary. |
