Surrounded by mountains, Yamanashi Prefecture is famous for rich nature with rivers, valleys, and lakes, and blessed with the best groundwater in Japan, which produces good quality sake. In addition, the inland climate in Yamanashi is suitable for sake brewing. The brewing industry in Yamanashi started in Edo era (1603-1868). In Meiji era (1868-1912) it is said that there were 92 brewers. Currently 19 brewers are producing unique and top quality sake including award-winning brands in national sake competitions. There are some breweries that welcome visitors for tasting and inspecting brewing process.
Yamanashi is easy to access from Tokyo. You can enjoy spectacular views of nature and encounter artifacts reflecting Japan's history and culture in galleries and museums.
There are many hot springs 'Onsen' in Yamanashi that offer advantages of health as well as relaxation.

A highland resort at an altitude of 1300m with mid grazing hills. It is located at the southern foot of the Yatsugatake Mountains at the northwestern part of Yamanashi near the border of Nagano. It over looks the Southern Japan Alps, Mt Fuji and the Chichibu Mountains in the distance.
