1. Promoting Environment Management
| Environment Management |
Plan
To actively promote the establishment of an environment-management system with the participation of JAL Group companies.

Performance
JAL Simulator Engineering and Nitto Aircraft Maintenance acquired accreditation for Ecostage 1, an evaluation and support system for environmental management, in fiscal 2005. That was followed shortly after by Japan TransOcean Air receiving Ecostage 1 certification, which has proved beneficial in terms of subsequent environmental activities and cost savings. The maintenance division and group companies (five divisions in total) were also successful in gaining integrated ISO 14001 accreditation, an International Organization for Standardization qualification related to the quality of environment-management systems.

| Environmental Auditing |

To implement environmental auditing.

Performance
The JAL Group has implemented environmental audits at 20 divisions in 17 group companies deemed to have a relatively high environmental impact. As a result, it has been possible to improve the contracts, procedures, systems and formats used in order to promote environmentally safe activities. |

To expand the scope of environmental accounting to major group companies.

In addition to JAL (JALS, JALI, JALJ) and JAL Group companies (JAA, JAZ, JTA, JEX, J-AIR, RAC, JAC, HAC), environmental accounting was extended to JSA, JLX, JLI and AGP in fiscal 2005. |

2. Measures Against Global Warming
| Reducing Aircraft CO2 Emissions |
Plan
By fiscal 2010, JAL will reduce fuel consumption per available ton-km (ATK) by more than 20%, compared with fiscal 1990 levels, by introducing the latest in fuel-efficient aircraft and using Communications, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) to fly in a more efficient manner. In line with this, JAL will also boost the proportion of traffic volume handled by new aircraft to 75% or more of total ATK volume.

Performance
By fiscal 2005, JAL had already achieved reductions of 11% in fuel consumed per ATK compared with fiscal 1990. The company is planning to retire its existing 747 fleet and introduce 737-800 and 787 aircraft as it aims to achieve its target of reducing fuel consumption by 20% by fiscal 2010. ATK-ratio targets for the new aircraft are being attained broadly in line with plans, as illustrated by the 65.6% figure for fiscal 2005, up from 58.0% in fiscal 2003.

| Reducing Energy Consumption |
Plan 1
By fiscal 2010, JAL will reduce the amount of thermal and electrical energy consumed by 10% compared with fiscal 2001.

Performance 1
Planned reductions are proceeding smoothly, as can be seen from the fact that in fiscal 2005 the Kanto area (Tokyo and environs) achieved a 17.5% reduction in thermal energy consumption and a 5.3% reduction in electrical energy consumption compared with fiscal 2001 (the consumption of thermal to electrical energy was approximately 1:3). Thermal energy was reduced by 9.3% compared with fiscal 2004 as a result of the government’s Cool Biz campaign, which encouraged office workers to shed their jackets and ties over the summer, and an energy-saving campaign implemented over the winter.

| Promoting Use of Ground Power Units (GPUs) |
Plan
To actively use GPUs in place of APUs.

Performance
In fiscal 2005, the company boosted domestic GPU use by 4% compared with the previous fiscal year, and increased GPU usage rates for A300-600 aircraft over the summer. At Haneda, the company has also introduced steps to restrict APU use to no more than 20 minutes prior to departure, as a general rule, via closer coordination between the flight and maintenance divisions.

3. Noise-Reduction Measures
Plan
JAL aims to comply with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)’s latest Chapter 4 noise standard along with the various restrictions in place at regional airports. |
Performance
JAL has retired six 747s, six DC-10s and three A300s that did not comply with the latest ICAO Chapter 4 noise standard.

4. Air-Pollution Reduction

| Countering Vehicle Emissions |
Plan
By fiscal 2010, JAL will switch 80% of its registered vehicles to low-pollution (natural-gas-fueled, electric and hybrid), low-emission or diesel vehicles with low particulate-matter (PM) emissions.

Performance
As of March 31, 2006, the introduction of low-pollution vehicles was proceeding broadly in line with plans, as illustrated by the 30.4% level achieved in Tokyo and 44.6% in the Narita district.

5. Recycling
| Reducing Waste |
Plan 1
By fiscal 2010, JAL aims to achieve zero emissions (recycling rate of 98% or more; final percentage of waste residue to waste generated of 1% or less) from industrial waste materials.

Performance 1
By March 31, 2006, the final percentage of waste residue to industrial waste generated in the Kanto area had been reduced to 2.5%.
|
Plan 2
By fiscal 2010, JAL will reduce emissions of general waste by 50% compared with fiscal 2001.
|
Performance 2
Reductions in the emission of general office waste are proceeding in line with plans, with the amount of waste reduced by 46.5% compared with fiscal 2001.

| Promoting Recycling |
Plan 1
JAL will encourage and pursue reuse and recycling (chemical, thermal and material), will set a target for recycling rates and actively pursue that target.

Performance 1
The recycling rate for industrial waste in the Kanto area is 98.1%. |
Plan 2
JAL will establish a mechanism for recycling paper and plastic waste materials. |
Performance 2
JAL has commenced the recycling of inflight magazines at Narita and Kansai airports. We have also begun recycling unused paper cups at Haneda and created a scheme for recycling plastic drink bottles and aluminum cans from cabin waste on inbound flights to Narita. In addition, we have commenced the recycling of mixed paper at the JAL headquarters building and in the Narita district.

| Efficient Use of Resources |
Plan
By fiscal 2010, JAL will reduce the amount of water it uses by 30% compared with fiscal 2001.

Performance
JAL achieved actual reductions of 20% in fiscal 2005 compared with fiscal 2001 in the Haneda and Narita districts.

| Green Purchasing |
Plan 1
JAL will purchase eco-friendly goods from a corporate social responsibility (CSR) standpoint, based on group procurement operation guidelines, along with JALI and JALJ procurement regulations.
Plan 2
To promote green purchasing, JAL will expand the scope of items purchased in common by the JAL Group.
Plan 3
JAL will revise its definition of green products as necessary in line with social circumstances and changes in the environment.

Performance
Green-purchase rates at JAL, JALI and JALJ of 45.9% failed to attain predetermined targets. These companies responded by changing suppliers and making their green-product standards more rigorous. This is the first time the relevant figures have been collated since the target was lowered to 50% from 80% in fiscal 2005. |

6. Chemical Controls

Plan 1
JAL will strengthen management systems through the Chemical Total Management System. |
Performance 1
The JAL Group uses more than 2,400 products. The company has altered its standards so as to be able to include the management of items that are used only in small amounts, and has added material-safety data sheets (MSDSs, fixed-format documents listing the names, harmful effects and cautionary notes on the handling of chemical substances) for 594 items to the Chemical Total Management System, while updating data for 310 items. |
Plan 2
JAL will by fiscal 2010 reduce its total usage of chemical materials regulated by Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (PRTR) legislation by more than 10% compared with fiscal 2001 and reduce total emissions into the environment by 30% or more.

Performance 2
In fiscal 2005, the JAL Group reduced its total usage of chemical materials by 34% and total emissions into the environment by 35% compared with fiscal 2001. As the original targets had already been achieved, when revising medium-term targets in March 2006 the company also reestablished targets on total emissions into the environment to reflect the addition of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to the Air Pollution Control Act in 2006.

We have revised our website to make it easier to navigate, and updated it with the latest information. The company has also included articles introducing events sponsored by JAL and those where the company has dispatched speakers to talk about developments at JAL.

| Interaction with Our Stakeholders |

JAL is looking to promote interaction with stakeholders by actively participating in public events and dispatching company representatives to talk about developments at JAL.

Performance
The company hosts the JAL Global Environment Seminar, a twice-yearly public event held in June and November. JAL also participated in the Shiroi City Environmental Forum in December 2005 and made a presentation about environmental activities carried out by the company.

8. Education and Awareness

9. Social Programs

JAL aims to promote social activities with environmental tie-ins, including the new tropospheric-observation project, the Marunouchi Citizens’ Environmental Forum and other programs aimed at conserving the natural environment. |

JAL is a participant in the Team –6% campaign and prints the team logo on schedules and inflight magazines as a way of endorsing the energy-saving programs of the Japanese government.
Performance 2
JAL has conducted a total of 278 tropospheric-observation exercises on its Australian routes since 1993.
Performance 3
JAL has completed its original round of tropospheric-observation exercises and embarked on a new tropospheric-observation project. The company obtained a grant from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and developed continuous CO2-measuring equipment (CME) as a cooperative project between industry and academia. CME has been installed on two 747-400 and three 777 aircraft. The company also revamped the original automatic sampler, installed these on two 747-400s and commenced tropospheric research on multiple international routes.
