JAPAN AIRLINES CONTINUES INTERNATIONAL NETWORK WINTER SCHEDULE AMENDMENTS WITH FREQUENCY CHANGES, ROUTE SUSPENSIONS
October 26:JAL announced today further temporary flight schedule amendments for November, December and, in some cases, the latter half of the current fiscal year, including transpacific service cuts and increases on Asian routes. The amendments reflect changes in international passenger demand in the aftermath of the September terrorist attacks in the US.
Based on winter season operations originally planned for November and beyond, the changes include reduction of frequencies, temporary suspension of some routes, downsizing of aircraft and increases of flights to Korea and China, subject to government approval.
Based on the original operation plans for the period October 2001 through March 2002, the changes represent an overall reduction of JAL Group airline frequency of 5% and a reduction in seat capacity of 6%. (JAL only capacity reductions 6% seat supply 7%). On JAL's transpacific routes the frequency reduction is 22% with a seat supply cut of 21%.
