JAL | JAPAN AIRLINES

Safety Promotion Center
On August 12, 1985, JAL flight 123 crashed at Mount Osutaka and 520 lives were lost. We pledged that we would never again allow such a tragic accident to occur and would do our utmost to ensure flight safety.

To reaffirm the importance of flight safety and allow people to reflect on past accidents, we established the Safety Promotion Center on April 24, 2006.

A major exhibit is the aft pressure bulkhead, the malfunction of which is regarded as the main cause of the flight-123 accident. Wreckage from the aft fuselage and cockpit voice recorder, newspaper reports of the accident and photographs of the crash site are also on display. The center presents information on major accidents that have involved JAL as well as panels displaying details of aviation accidents from around the world.

A main objective of the Safety Promotion Center is to establish safety awareness among JAL Group staff. It is our strong belief that this center will operate as a basis for establishing safety within the company, and we will use it as the starting point for a pledge on flight safety.
