We plan to carry out a series of safety investments amounting to approximately ¥60 billion over the five-year period from fiscal 2006 to 2010. We intend to strengthen and utilize the IT operations that support flight safety, along with expanding our maintenance facilities. At the same time, we will step up such measures at the group level as increased hiring of engineering staff and mechanics in our companies.
Problems
.
Analysis of safety issues and measures to deal with them are not being properly communicated among group companies. This is particularly true in the case of human errors leading to incidents.
.
We have not fully developed our abilities in handing on requisite skills and training professionals in the area of transportation safety.
.
We still lack an awareness of the crucial central role of safety owing to our not having established a culture of safety that continuously learns from the past, and our educational efforts to promote safety have been insufficient.
Countermeasures
.
Based on information gathered from group companies, we will create a safety-information database and use this to formulate safety measures.
.
We will prepare a safety-education program to establish a culture of safety.
.
We will invest more in spare engines and maintenance facilities to strengthen the maintenance system. We will employ more staff and encourage the passing down of acquired skills.
.
Through analysis of flight-operation records, we will tackle issues resulting from human error to prevent the recurrence of incidents.
