Shioda-cho, home to the brewery, is situated on the western edge of the Saga Plain, and the Shioda river runs through the center of town. The river provides for the lush rice paddies and fields, and agriculture thrives. In addition, there are many porcelain clay factories the area lining the river, and the clay is shipped to Arita, known for Arita ware, as well as other prefectures.
This brewery was established in 1922. It came into being when its original founder branched out from the Seto Brewery next door, brewer of "Azumacho." The second-generation brewer returned to his native land at about the same time that World War II ended, and amid the rice shortages and poverty, he resumed operations at the brewery, which had been shuttered during the war.
The brewery is a 7-time winner of top honors at the National New Sake Tasting Competition of the National Research Institute of Brewing, an independent administrative institute, having received gold medals in 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1997, 1998, and 2001.
Today, the third-generation brewer presides over the Azumaichi spirit of brewing, which was realized through his predecessors' utter and singular devotion to sake. In keeping with their motto of "quality and uniqueness," the toji alongside the brewery workers are wholeheartedly dedicated in their daily pursuit of producing sake of a quality more refined this year than in the last.
