City ringed by the northern alps
Sendai is located in the Tohoku region, about 350 km north of Tokyo. The city enjoys a lush natural environment all year round, resulting in its nickname Mori no Miyako (city of green woods). The city has a cultural history that reaches back 400 years to the era of feudal lord Date Masamune, and is known for local specialties that are fine companions for sake, such as fresh seafood from the Pacific Ocean.
