Surrounded by mountains, the Hitoyoshi and Kuma region of Kumamoto Prefecture was effectively protected from invasion for 770 years. The Nasu family's shochu has developed against this background, blessed with good quality water from the Kuma River and a plentiful supply of rice.
A small distillery, Nasu Shuzo distillery is located in the middle of the rice-growing area of the Kuma Basin. Our hallmark is that, since the beginning, we have used handmade koji (malted rice), with the pot slow-fermentation process also being carried out entirely by hand. Small-batch production means that great attention can be paid to the process. We do our utmost to produce shochu that stimulates all five senses with taste, color, smell, sound and touch. |
