Approximately two hours by car from Naha Airport, up in the northern part of the main island of Okinawa, lies Yambaru, the longstanding unofficial name of the area, which is not used on maps. The Yamakawa Shuzo distillery is located on the banks of the Manna River, which flows through the natural wonderland that surrounds Yaedake Mountain.
"Whatever happens in the market, make sure that you put some product aside for kusu (aged awamori). The time will come when kusu comes into vogue." Steadfast to this vision of the distillery's founder Munemichi Yamakawa, at our distillery, we patiently work at producing kusu. We are selective with our ingredients. The Thai rice used is whole rather than partially crushed rice, giving a soft aroma and a mellow taste. Only when we are satisfied that the awamori crafted with years of loving care is ready will it be released as kusu. We will continue producing awamori that provides that constant moist feeling in the throat, an awamori that helps to keep our customers happy. |
