About the Kuramoto
Yoron Island is located at the southernmost end of the Amami Islands at 27 degrees north latitude, 128 degrees east longitude. The island of Okinawa can be seen 21km (13 miles) away across the sea to the south. Yoron is a small island, only 23.65 km (14.7 miles) around, with a subtropical climate that records an average temperature of 23℃ (73℉). The island is covered in brightly colored flowers, and the sea that hosts the coral reef around the island is brimming with natural wonder. Every year many tourists visit this glistening pearl floating in the eastern seas to go diving in its waters.
The only distillery on this small island, Arimura Shuzo has occupied an important place in the lives of the islanders ever since its foundation. Always striving to produce sai (the local word for an alcohol beverage) that our local people can be proud of, we continue to produce shochu by hand in a manner only possible in a small distillery.
