| Koma : Yanagita Shuzo |
The Yanagita Shuzo distillery is located in Miyakonojo City, known as the "City of Mist" because its basin-like topography means that it is often covered in a mysterious shroud of mist in the morning. Miyakonojo City is located in the southwest of Miyazaki Prefecture with the Kirishima Mountains to the west of the city.
Yanagita Shuzo is a small distillery founded in 1902. Despite being located in an area renowned for imo-shochu, it specializes in mugi-shochu and is well known for that fact that the whole Yanagita family is involved in its down-to-earth approach to shochu production. The toji, or master distiller, has chosen Kyushu's Nishinochikara barley for the ingredient, which play such a crucial role in determining the quality of the final product. Nishinochikara has barley's distinctive fullness of flavor, creating a mellow and smooth taste.
This shochu goes perfectly with the local Miyazaki specialty, Jitokko chicken. This delicious chicken is said to have been offered as tribute by the local farmers to the lords of the Shimazu clan in times long past. This shochu superbly matches the natural rich flavor of chicken. |

| Koma (Mugi-Shochu / 25% alcohol) |
| Uses Japanese Nijo barley. With a light flavor and a crisp aftertaste, it goes well with any food. |
| Akakage (Mugi-Shochu / 25% alcohol) |
| A mugi-shochu distilled in a manner that brings out more umami from the ingredients than with Koma. Elegant: despite the barley aroma, the gently sweet aftertaste is just right. |
