Hurricane Katrina
The JAL Group appealed to its employees for emergency donations for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. In total, \1.5 million was raised, which was provided to the victims via the Japanese Red Cross Society.
Pakistan earthquake
Following a request from Japan Platform*, the JAL Group set up a series of emergency flights between Narita and Islamabad, ferrying free winter blankets to the victims of the Pakistan earthquake of October 2005.
Blankets from Hiroshima Prefecture collected by Japan Platform and those purchased with donations from JAL Group companies were transported to Islamabad. The blankets were then given to Japanese NGOs for distribution to earthquake victims.
In response to an appeal from the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren), JAL also donated \1.15 million to victims, via the Japanese Red Cross Society. JAL assisted the earthquake relief efforts by expanding free shipping of relief goods, and by transporting humanitarian aid personnel on its flights between Japan and New Delhi.

Java Island earthquake
JAL provided free transport of relief goods and aid personnel to Indonesia following the earthquake on Java Island, Indonesia on May 27, 2006. Transportation assistance was provided by JAL to such organizations as the Japanese Red Cross. JAL helped to transport NGO staff to Indonesia on flights it operates between Japan and Jakarta and Denpasar.

Earthquake relief fund-raising activities were conducted within the JAL Group and the money raised was donated to the Japan Platform*. The JAL Group managed to raise \1.52 million through employee donations, and a charity concert held on June 29, 2006 in JAL’s corporate headquarters.

Following a request from the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren), the JAL Group also donated money to the Japanese Red Cross.
*Japan Platform (JPF)
An organization established in August 2000 with the aim of providing prompt and effective emergency humanitarian assistance activities for disasters and conflicts, among others, in coordination and cooperation with Japanese NGOs, economic circles and the government.
