City of reflections Water and Sky
Matsue, in Shimane Prefecture, is a city where water is never far away. Located close to the Japan Sea, the city stands between the Nakaumi Lagoon and Lake Shinji. This enchanting city was the first home in Japan of writer Lafcadio Hearne, famous as the 19th century's foremost interpreter of Japan to the West.
This small, graceful city is a rich repository of historic treasures.
