The MD-11 was developed as the high-tech
successor of the DC-10. The aircraft has three engines, one under
each wing and one located at the base of the vertical fin, giving
it a distinctive appearance. The MD-11 has a maximum range of over
10,000km. The aircraft also has small extended wing-tips known as "winglets" located
above and below the tips of the wings.
