2000's Toward the skies of the 21st century- Integration and joining alliances

Amidst a rapidly changing global environment, the integration of JAL and JAS was achieved to survive competition with the world’s mega-carriers. By strengthening the domestic foundation through the integration and expanding the international network by joining global alliances, JAL continues its challenge toward new skies in the 21st century.

JAL/JAS integration

Thoroughly advancing the efficiency of production resources and aiming to improve customer convenience through promoting competition, expanding the network, and improving schedules, a new structure on the JAL/JAS integration was launched in April 2004. Subsequently, on October 1, 2006, the complete unification into a single operating company was realized.

April 2007:Joined the global alliance oneworld

Aiming to provide high-quality and seamless services through the expansion of the network and offerings such as e-tickets, mileage services, airport lounges, and smooth transfer services as alliance products and services.

2004:Launch of domestic Class J service

2005:Introduction of international flight Web Check-in service

2005:Start of domestic flight IC Check-in (Touch & Go)

2007:Launch of domestic first class service

A new logo was established with the JAL/JAS integration

The red color symbolizes Japan as well as strong emotions such as "aspiration to the sky" and "joy". Silver represents "safety", "innovation" and "quality" expressing the responsibility and pride of professionals. Black signifies "reliability" and "universality."

Launch of Premium Economy Class on international routes

On December 1, 2007, as part of enhancing its international services, JAL introduced the "JAL Premium Economy" service on the new Tokyo–London route. JAL Premium Economy was created in response to many customers' requests for a bit more comfort than regular economy class. Under the concept of "Relaxing Economy Class", a variety of services were offered both in the cabin and at the airport from departure to return, providing an extra level of comfort above standard economy class.
