2010's~ From bankruptcy to revival-Toward becoming the world’s most preferred and beloved airline group
Following the application for corporate rehabilitation under the Corporate Rehabilitation Act in January 2010, which caused significant inconvenience to many due to large-scale debt forgiveness and a 100% capital reduction, JAL was supported by many, including the Industrial Revitalization Corporation of Japan. In a short period of approximately two years and eight months, we were able to reach the starting line of a fresh start with the re-listing of our shares. The new JAL will continue to fly forward, never forgetting our gratitude.

2010: The first female captain and line check supervisor were born
At JAL Group, women have been active from an early stage, pioneering the way for female pursers well ahead of airlines worldwide. In 2010, the first female captain in Japan’s airline industry was born. In the same year, the JAL Group also saw the emergence of its first female line maintenance certifying staff for medium-to-large aircraft, who was authorized to sign the flight logbook and dispatch the aircraft.
September 19, 2012: Re-listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange
With the support of many people, JAL undertook company-wide management reforms, including downsizing its business and changing employee mindsets. As a result, approximately two years and eight months after its bankruptcy, JAL successfully achieved re-listing on September 19, 2012.

December 2020: Full-scale launch of JAL SMART AIRPORT at Haneda Airport
A "new JAL airport" has begun, where airport staff equipped with mobile devices assist passengers, and automated check-in machines that issue baggage tags, as well as Self Baggage Drop machines, are installed.

February 2024: Introduction of Boeing767 freighter
Start of operations for the company’s dedicated cargo aircraft for the first time in about 13 years.

Establishment of the new "Tsurumaru" logo mark representing the promise and determination of the new JAL
All employees of the JAL Group have returned to the founding spirit, and while preserving the cultivated "spirit of hospitality," they set the new "Tsurumaru" logo, which features a redesigned crane motif based on the former Tsurumaru and updated JAL typography. This symbolizes their resolve to boldly step into uncharted territory and take on new challenges.
LCC Strategy
JAL made its first investment in an LCC (Low-Cost Carrier), Jetstar Japan, in 2011. Since then, it has been implementing an LCC strategy centered around Narita Airport through three companies: ZIPAIR Tokyo, an international medium- to long-haul LCC; Jetstar Japan, which mainly operates domestic routes; and Spring Japan, which operates routes to China and became a consolidated subsidiary in 2021.
The New World Connected by the Boeing787
The Boeing787 has achieved significant weight reduction by extensively using carbon fiber composite materials, greatly improving fuel efficiency. This advancement has supported the launch of new international routes that were previously unprofitable. In addition to reducing CO2 emissions, the aircraft enables environmentally friendly operations through noise reduction thanks to high-performance engines.
The spread of the novel coronavirus infection
Due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection, from 2020 onwards, countries strengthened their border control and quarantine measures, resulting in the nearly complete disappearance of demand for cross-border travel.
