Upgrading to Fuel-efficient Aircraft
The JAL Group is upgrading our fleet to more fuel-efficient aircraft in order to mitigate impacts of operations on the environment. In September 2019, we introduced the Airbus A350-900 on domestic routes, and the Boeing 787 aircraft, which had been in service on international routes since 2012, on domestic routes in October 2019. In addition, we started introducing Airbus A350-1000 for international routes from January 2024, and 20 Airbus A350-900 aircraft, which are currently the mainstay of our domestic fleet, will be introduced on international flights from the fiscal 2027, and the JAL has decided to introduce an additional 10 Boeing 787-9 aircraft which are already in service with more than 50 aircraft in the JAL Group. On domestic routes, JAL has decided to 21 Boeing 737-8 aircrafts in 2026 to replace the Boeing 737-800 aircraft, in addition, 11 Airbus A321neo aircraft in 2028 to replace the Boeing 767 aircraft currently in operation at the first time for JAL. These aircraft are low-noise and fuel-efficient which are capable of providing CO2 emissions reduntions of around 15% to 25% compared to conventional aircraft.
The JAL Group is steadily upgrading to fuel-efficient aircraft by utilizing funds raised through a public offering in fiscal 2020 and SDG bonds, the world's first transition bonds in the airline industry, issued in March 2022. Also, we will continue to make active and continuous use of ESG finance, including the issuance of our second, third, and fourth transition bonds in June 2023 and May 2024, respectively, to systematically upgrade to newer aircraft, thereby contributing to the reduction of our environmental impact.

Promoting the Introduction of Next-Generation Aircraft
As the development of next-generation aircraft equipped with new electric and hydrogen-powered technologies gains momentum, we are actively collaborating with airframe and engine manufacturers to promote technological innovation. In addition, since the development of infrastructure, including airports, is essential for next-generation aircraft, the JAL group cooperates with the government, airport companies, and other stakeholders to improve the environment for next-generation aircraft.
