Participation in the UN Global Compact

The JAL Group has been participating in the Global Compact, advocated by the United Nations, since December 2004. On January 31 1999, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan called on business leaders to join an international initiative – the Global Compact – to support nine (now ten) principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption. The Global Compact's operational phase was launched at the UN Headquarters in New York on July 26, 2000.
The JAL Group supports and implements the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact in all its business activities, and will acts as a bridge to bring peoples, their cultures and their hearts closer together as an overall air transport enterprise, and thus contribute to world peace and prosperity.

Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and
Principle 2: make sure they are not complicit in human rights abuses.

Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;
Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour;
Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labour and
Principle 6: the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.

Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
Principle 8: undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility and
Principle 9: encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.

Principle 10: Businesses should work against all forms of corruption, including extortion and bribery.
