“HAIZAI ART Upcycled Art Exhibition: Radiating Colors, and Scrap Material”
As a preliminary event for the large-scale Airport Art Wrap project featuring art from HERALBONY titled
“#MISAWA ARTPORT” at Misawa Airport, Aomori Prefecture, in January 2022, “HAIZAI ART Upcycled Art
Exhibition: Radiating Colors and Scrap” was held at THE HANEDA HOUSE First Patio on the 5th floor of
Haneda Airport Terminal 1 in December
2021.
Reiko Aoki's “Circles” was featured and exhibited wrapped on a discarded aircraft part - an engine fan
blade of a Boeing 737-800. This project gave a piece of scrap material a new life as an “engine” that
generates new encounters with “extra-ordinary” art.
In addition, a miniature blade was displayed for visitors to sit on and enjoy, and baggage tags to be sold
exclusively at “MISAWA ARTPORT” were out on preview display.
During the exhibition period, a “Main Design Selection Poll” was held to pick out which piece is to become
the main visual of “#MISAWA ARTPORT”. Visitors’ votes selected Akira Onozaki's “Flowers and Fireworks”
from among the multiple works by Heralbony contract artists from the Tohoku region.
