“HAIZAI ART Upcycled Art Exhibition: Radiating Colors, and Scrap Material”

As a preliminary event for the large-scale Airport Art Wrap project featuring art from HERALBONY titled “#MISAWA ARTPORT” at Misawa Airport, Aomori Prefecture, in January 2022, “HAIZAI ART Upcycled Art Exhibition: Radiating Colors and Scrap” was held at THE HANEDA HOUSE First Patio on the 5th floor of Haneda Airport Terminal 1 in December 2021.

Reiko Aoki's “Circles” was featured and exhibited wrapped on a discarded aircraft part - an engine fan blade of a Boeing 737-800. This project gave a piece of scrap material a new life as an “engine” that generates new encounters with “extra-ordinary” art.

In addition, a miniature blade was displayed for visitors to sit on and enjoy, and baggage tags to be sold exclusively at “MISAWA ARTPORT” were out on preview display.

During the exhibition period, a “Main Design Selection Poll” was held to pick out which piece is to become the main visual of “#MISAWA ARTPORT”. Visitors’ votes selected Akira Onozaki's “Flowers and Fireworks” from among the multiple works by Heralbony contract artists from the Tohoku region.

Born 1977, from Koriyama City, Fukushima. Reiko Aoki’s signature work is a series featuring “Circles”. Using water colors, oils and acrylic, painting circles in rows and layers creates vibrant textures, resulting in works with distinct character. She also is a member of “HANA”, a Latin Percussion group. We can almost hear jubilant music from her energetic and rhythmic style.
