Beyond Guide: A Q&A resource to support worry-free air travel
So you can keep every journey within reach. As part of an initiative to support people with disabilities and their families who may feel anxious about air travel, we have released the "Beyond Guide".
In the "Outing Survey," 30–36% of respondents said they find it difficult to use public transportation, including airplanes, due to both physical and procedural reasons.
(HERALBONY "Outing Survey," 2023, conducted with 250 families of individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities)
In response, we created the "Beyond Guide"-a Q&A-style booklet designed to address common concerns and questions-so that more people can feel supported in their wish to travel.
The guide aims to help people with intellectual disabilities and their families feel more at ease when flying. Based on real voices-such as "We are worried about waiting for long periods," "What should I do if they panic?" and "Can we bring my preferred food or drink?"-it provides clear, accessible advice on booking, pre-boarding, navigating the airport, and enjoying the flight.

Shigaku Mizukami/atelier yamanami/ShigaAs a child, he enjoyed drawing anime characters, but after he started attending Yamanami Workshop, he began drawing patterns as soon as he picked up the brushes and rulers available in the room. His work features countless colored fan-shapes and dots. The brush movements and the way he places dots are methodical, repeating the same actions slowly. It’s unclear whether he has a specific image in mind, whether he’s simply enjoying the colors and movements, or what he feels as he draws. However, the way he uses his brush for lines and the arrangement of dots seem to indicate how he is feeling at that moment in time.
